Wee Read - Summer!

I just realized that I've never posted a Wee Read storytime plan! How could I?!

We had a fantastic Wee Read (Baby Storytime) today! I couldn't believe how well they sat to listen to the stories, and were very engaged when we sang. I'll have to do these songs more often.

To view my format for Wee Read, look here.

Books
Wake Up, Me by Marni McGee

Oh my goodness, what a cute book. A little boy wakes himself up, first his eyes, then nose, then tummy. Adorable. Simple pictures make this a good pick for a baby group.

Brownie and Pearl Take a Dip by Cynthia Rylant

Short and sweet, with lots of white space. I think the caregivers had more fun with this than their babies!
Duckie's Splash by Frances Barry

Every week I choose one board book to pass out to all of the families. We read the book together, then I give them an opportunity to explore the book with their families. This particular title has a pop out at the end, and the smallest babies were drawn to it.

Songs
Head and Shoulders

Head and shoulders, knees and toes,
Knees and toes
Head and shoulders, knees and toes,
Knees and toes
Eyes and ears and mouth and nose
Head and shoulders, knees and toes
Knees and toes!
-- Traditional

Mr. Sun
Oh Mr. Sun, Sun,
Mr. Golden Sun
Won’t you please shine down on me?
Oh Mr. Sun, Sun,
Mr. Golden Sun
Hiding behind a tree.
These little children are asking you
To please come out so they can
Play with you.
Oh Mr. Sun, Sun,
Mr. Golden Sun
Won’t you please shine down on me?
-- Traditional
*Try mixing in a little sign language with the motions!

Little Green Frog
Mmm-ahh! Went the little green frog one day.
Mmm-ahh! Went the little green frog.
Mmm-ahh! Went the little green frog one day.
And the frog went mmm-mmm-ahh!
*I used a finger puppet for this song and had it "jump" at the babies when I sang, "Mmm-ahh!"

Old MacDonald Had a Farm
Old MacDonald had a farm
E-I-E-I-O
And on his farm he had a cow
E-I-E-I-O
With a moo-moo here
And a moo-moo there
Here a moo
There a moo
Everywhere a moo-moo
Old MacDonald had a farm
E-I-E-I-O
(repeat using pig, chicken, and sheep)
-- Traditional
*I used puppets for this song. Big hit!
Red Bird
*Dr. Jim cut out bird shapes from red, blue, yellow, and green foam board. They are great to use during songs like this. He suggests using the ASL signs for the colors along with the birds.
